Growing healthy foods for a healthy community!

FRIENDS OF THE FARM

Farmer John Sherck

John is a seasoned, local farmer and one of our most important mentors. He specializes in purely heirloom, organic growing, with an emphasis on bedding plants, perennial vegetable stock, and the best heirloom tomatoes we've ever tasted. Find all this along with other delightful produce at his seasonal roadside farmstand.

People's History of Elkhart

Beginning in 2008, as a way to orient new voluntary service workers to Elkhart, People's History of Elkhart has grown into a racially, economically, religiously and educationally diverse group working for justice in Elkhart. This experiment invites all people of Elkhart to join with the outcast and exploited, and together share: STORY—building relationships across historic divisions; STUDY—strengthening leadership and work through mutual learning; STRATEGY—exploring how we will make history for dignity and justice in our community. Check out their Facebook page and Community Calendar to learn about how you can get involved, or to add other community events.

Elkhart Local Food Alliance

The Elkhart Local Food Alliance is a community gardening collective made up of volunteer members and supported by local organizations grounded in the neighborhoods of South Central Elkhart. We seek to cultivate community and create food security through a variety of interactive programs including several community gardens, 4-H gardening club, after school programs and workshops for adults, and a demonstration greenhouse. The food grown is shared among gardeners, program participants, and any surplus is preserved or shared with a local food bank.
